Story behind this piece:
In 2005 Jan visited a motorcycle and classic car hillclimb event in Nussdorf, a tiny village above Lake Attersee, just 40 minutes east of Salzburg, in Austria.
A surprisingly large field of maybe 75 cars and an equally large number of motorcycles participated. A father-son team with a 1960's BMW sidecar rig caught Jan's attention. Dressed in period leather gear with old-fashioned, vintage helmets, they were attempting to push-start their sidecar combination uphill, with obvious effort, powerfully leaning forward, into their machine, to achieve maximum momentum.
Several small groups of spectators stood close by, watching the scene, commenting and gesturing, calling out, offering well meant advice. Jan witnessed a true insider spectacle which can only be fully appreciated by the dedicated aficionados of this man-and-machine interaction.
